UX of Birdsong

WEEK TWO

Brief

Design an urban birdsong experience.

Task One

Using two distinct research methods;digital soundwalking and physical prototyping.

Team Members

Changlin Hou (Charlie),  Reagan Bbengo,  Zuzana Galova,  Weiting Chi,  Dexian Wang(Devin)

What’s the Next?

1.We want to understand the relationship between birds and London.
2.Current status of birds in London.
3.What London citizens think of birds

Background

1.The number of birds in the London area has decreased by 40%. People in the city may not have noticed the disappearance of these birds.
2.We may have heard their birdsong but never seen them.
3.Even if you hear it, you can't tell what kind of bird it is, and you even think it's a dog
4.We want to change that, we want to bring people’s attention to these disappearing habitats.

Concept Explain

1.Name: The last bird song.
2.Aim of the project: To bring attention to birdsong that is disappearing.
3.The purpose is to draw attention to extinct birdsong / disappearing bird song - it give people the chance to listen carefully to these birdsongs.

Making Prototype 1.0

1.We have built different bird houses with man-made materials mixed with natural materials.

Making Prototype 1.1

1.Build similar style posters for them.
2.According to the tutor's suggestion, we should make it colorful to attract people to interact.

Making Prototype 1.2

1. We print the poster and hide the NFC sticker inside.
2.You should notice that the A2 size poster is made up of two A3 sheets. This is because we are short of time and the place to reserve A2 printing is full. Fortunately, the effect is good.

Making Prototype 1.3

1.The birdsong play page and popular science page we made. The inspiration was the playback page of a music app.

Final presentation

1. You arrive at the bus stop, you have 5 minutes to spare before your bus leaves.
2.You are wearing your headphone, connected to your phone, listening to the music.
3.You notice a bird house hanging in the bus stop. It says "Who lived there".
4.You approach it, look at it, notice that is asks you to tap your phone.
5.You tap your phone - we will use NFC dots attached to the birds house, to play the sound.
6.Your phone plays the birdsong, followed by a pop-up screen that explains what bird you are listening to and what happended to them.

Final Feedback

1.This project is relatively complete, but we can explore more scenarios.  Whether the scene of the bus station is the best, and whether it can attract people to interact with it.
2.Another small problem is that the NFC scanning code seems not sensitive enough.
